Dave makes a good case on why someone needs to be in charge. First, curation.
Curation comes two ways. Someone else curates what you see. Or, you curate what you see. Using both is better, which I why I have killed a few news apps and rely on merely a handful– including Apple News– and a carefully selected list of RSS feeds; all intended to weed out fake news and give me a more balanced perspective on the world.
While the government cannot silence citizens from speaking out (I see plenty of governmental intimidation that definitely smacks of such an intent), that freedom does not carry over into the rest of the world.
Do I not have freedom of speech?
Yes, you can say whatever you want to anyone about anything, but there are consequences in the real world. I’m thinking slander, defamation, and libel.
That tells me that a degree of censorship– either self imposed, or directing imposed– can be good for humanity.
The right to say whatever we want wherever we want seems bound to humanity, but so are the consequences.
