Alex explains how Apple has a long standing love and hate relationship with app developers, as displayed at WWDC’s keynote show’n tell.
Well, for nearly two hours, app developers got to watch how Apple does it with all those new OS versions, but more than a few developers got bitch slapped by Apple’s new apps.
Apps that compete directly with app developers.
The first one that struck home was Apple’s own Reminders app which received a bunch of new features that mimic those by app developers who have their own reminders apps.
The second was Apple’s Notes app. Yes, it’s good, but the next version adds more features that put it in competition with third party app developers.
Another example, and this one bothers me most, is how the new Watch calculator app will compete head on to PCalc, one of my favorite apps ever. PCalc runs on iPhone, iPad, iMessage, Apple Watch, and there’s a Mac version.
Apple does this all the time.
